WHO DG lauds successes of community clinics

GENEVA, Switzerland, May 21, 2018 (BSS) - Director General (DG) of World Health Organization (WHO) Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyeyesus has highly praised successes of community clinics in providing healthcare facilities for the people of the rural areas.

"Community clinics have set an example to reach healthcare services to the grassroots people in the rural areas," he made the comments when Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammed Nasim met WHO DG in Geneva, Switzerland.

Secretary of Health Service Division Sirajul Haque Khan, Chairman of Bangladesh Medical Research Council Dr Syed Modasser Ali, High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Switzerland M Shamim Ahsan, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Dr Sharfuddin Ahmed, Additional Secretary Habibur Rahman, Chairman of Bangladesh Breastfeeding Foundation Dr SK Roy and Chairman of Bangladesh Homeopathic Board Dr Dilip Roy, among others, were present on the occasion.

Dr Tedros said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina deserves special appreciation as Bangladesh has provided healthcare services to nearly 11 lakh Rohingyas, who were forcefully displaced from Rakhine state of Myanmar.

He expressed his interest to visit Bangladesh as the country has made a remarkable progress in the field of heath sector.

Highlighting different successes of health sector, Nasim invited WHO DG to visit Bangladesh to extend his cooperation for further achievement in the health sector.

The health minister urged the WHO chief to include representatives of Bangladesh in the policy making levels of WHO.

Alongside successes of immunization coverage, Nasim said Bangladesh is producing world standard immunization products.
