One thousand families benefitted under Ashrayan Prakalpa in Feni

FENI, May 25, 2018 (BSS) - Over one thousand landless and homeless families have gotten shelters and livelihood through one of the Prime Minister's 10 priority initiatives, 'Ashrayan Prakalpa'.

"The project beneficiary families have been leading meaningful life now after getting shelter and assistance to become self-reliant coming out of poverty through various income generation activities," a senior official at the Feni Deputy Commissioner Office told BSS.

He said the government is providing shelter to a total of 1,161 families under the 13 Ashrayan centers in the district. The total number of beneficiaries is 4,883 while the number of capable couples is 821, he added.

He said the rehabilitated people are living happily with income-generating activities and their children going to schools to become worthy citizens of the country.

The senior official said the local government division has been implementing comprehensive social safety-net activities under the project for mainstreaming the rehabilitated people to be self-reliant with support, training and assistance from the government.

The adult male-female members of the rehabilitated families are getting training on increasing awareness on various issues, expertise and human resources development to enable them becoming engaged in income-generation ventures, he added.

He said the activities of the project will be accelerated more in future to alleviate poverty for fulfilling the vision 2021 and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

For developing the living standard of the rehabilitated families, he informed, the Social Services Department has disbursed Taka 44,00,000 as credit while Cooperatives Department disbursed Taka 6,48,80,000.

The official said the Cooperative Department has also provided training to the 315 small traders, 335 people for poultry firms, 75 people for the cultivation of fish and 220 people of the other professions.

He said the Youth Development Department has also provided training to the 510 people on several subjects, including poultry firm, fisheries, sewing and cattle caring.

In 2010, the government has undertaken the Ashrayan-2 project for providing shelter for around 2.50 lakh families at a cost of Taka 4,840.28 crore within 2019.
