One killed in 'encounter' in Dinajpur

RANGPUR, May 26, 2018 (BSS) - An alleged drug trader was killed in an 'encounter' with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 at village Basudebpur under Birganj upazila of Dinajpur district in the early hours of today.

"The deceased was identified as Sabdarul, 40, of village Nandaigaon in Birganj upazila of Dinajpur," said a RAB-13 press release issued by its Media Officer ASP Khondker Golam Mortuza here today.

The shootout occurred when an operational team of RAB-13 came under gun attacks of 4 to 6 drug traders during an anti-drug drive conducted on secret information there.

"When the shooting stopped, drug trader Sabdarul was found laying on the spot with bullet injury though his other cohorts could flee from the scene," the release said adding that two members of RAB-13 were injured in the incident.

The elite force immediately rushed the injured person to Birganj Upazila Health Complex where the attending physician declared his dead.

"After searching the area, the elite force seized a foreign origin pistol with one magazine and four rounds of bullets, two kilograms of ganja and 95 bottles of phensidyl from the spot," the release said.
