Opposition can not see AL's dev: Shipping Minister

RANGPUR, Nov 17, 2012 (BSS)- Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan today said a vested quarter can not see the massive development spree of the present Awami League (AL)-led grand alliance government in their eyes.

The minister was addressing a huge public meeting at Sonahat Degree College ground this evening after inaugurating the full- fledged Sonahat Land Port (SLP) at Bangasonahat border under Bhurungamari upazila in Kurigram as the chief guest.

As per pre-election pledges of the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Shipping Minister today inaugurated the SLP through unveiling foundation stone fulfilling the long-cherished demand of the local people.

With Bhurungamari upazila AL President Haji Shahjahan Siraj in the chair, Jafar Ali MP, industrialist Golam Mostafa, Bhurungamari upazila AL Secretary Nurunnabi Chowdhury and Joint Secretary Sarker Rakib Ahmed, addressed, as the special guests.

Shajahan Kahn said the socio-economic condition of the people of Kurigram and Rangpur region as a whole will change fast following commissioning of the SLP that will boost international trade and commerce with the Indian seven-sister states.

Citing the massive development programmes of the present government, he said people of Rangpur region are getting full benefits of newly formed Rangpur administrative division, Rangpur City Corporation, Begum Rokeya University and Teesta Road Bridge while a dozens of other development projects are progressing.

To reduce pressure on the Bangabandhu Multipurpose Jamuna Bridge and improve the communication networks, the government has undertaken a plan for launching ferry services on the Paturia- Kazirhat and Gaibandha-Jamalpur river routes, he said.

"The government has also planned for setting up four Marine Academies at different place in the country including Nagar Bari and Rangpur and has already allocated funds for dredging the rivers Dharla and Dudhkumar in Kurigram," he said.

Besides, the government has decided to dig 53 rivers and set up more 12 land ports in addition to the existing 18 land ports throughout the country, he said and called the people for voting
AL again to power for maintaining the pace of massive
development.
