Mouchak-Moghbazar flyover to be constructed by 2 yrs: Nanak

DHAKA, Nov 18, 2012 (BSS) - The construction work of 8.25-km Mouchak- Moghbazar Flyover would begin from next week to ease traffic congestion in the city, State Minister for Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak said.

"It is expected to complete within two years and facilitate the north-south traffic flow," he said after signing an agreement with construction firms at LGED Bhaban here.

State Minister said that the government undertook the Mouchak-Moghbazar Flyover project at an estimated cost of Tk 772.70 crore.

Of the project cost, Tk 200.47 crore will come from the national exchequer, Tk 375.25 crore from Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) and Tk 196.98 crore from OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) as loan.

Zhu Ya, Deputy Manager of the No 4Metallurgical Construction Overseas Company of China Limited, Gautam Banarjee, Business Development Manager of Simplex Infrastructures Limited and Project Director of Local Government and Engineering Department (LGED) Nazmul Alam signed the agreement on behalf of their respective sides.

During the contract sign, Secretary of Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) Ministry Abu Alam M Shahid Khan, LGED Chief Wahidur Rahman and other officials were present. Prime Minister is expected to lay the foundation stone on December.

"Awami League government, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, undertook the long-waited mega flyover project to bring maximum benefit to the commuters and minimize traffic congestion," Nanak said.

The Mayor Hanif Flyover would open for traffic from next March 26, Nanak said.

According to the project details, LGED is the implementing authority for the construction of long-awaited Moghbazar-Mouchak flyover. Simplex-Navana JV, MCCC (NO.4)-SELUDC JV were awarded for completing the job.

As per the standard perspective, Dhaka city should have 25 percent road network, but it has only has only eight percent.
