President, PM for upholding spirit of holy Ashura
DHAKA, Nov 24, 2012 (BSS) - President Zillur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday dubbed holy Ashura as an important day in human history and said the day has been observed as a major sacred day by Muslims for reasons obvious.
Prophet Hazrat Muhammad's grandson Hazrat Imam Hossain, his family and a host of his followers embraced martyrdom on Karbala premises on 10th Muharram of Hijri 61 in a battle to establish truth and justice.
"The message of holy Ashura inspires us to follow the path of truth and justice, while it guides us to wage protests against injustices," President Zillur Rahman said in a message on the eve of the day.
He said Ashura is a day of grief and sadness for the Muslim Ummah. He also prayed for the eternal peace of the great Muslim souls killed in Karbala.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in a separate message said the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hossain and his followers would act a great source of inspirations for the entire Muslim Ummah in establishing justice and truth.
She also called upon all to follow the spirit of Ashura in national life as well.
