Sufferings of Eid holyday-makers will remain tolerable: Quader

MUNSHIGANJ, May 23, 2018 (BSS) - Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader yesterday expressed hope that sufferings of Eid holyday-makers on roads and highways before and after the Eid-ul-Fitr will remain at tolerable level.

"People's journey to their homes marking the Eid-ul-Fitr may not be free from sufferings but it will remain at tolerable level," he told a view- exchange on Eid-journey and toll plaza management with stakeholders at temporary office of Meghna bridge authority at Jamaldi on the Dhaka- Chittagong Highway in the district.

Quader, also Awami League General Secretary, said directives have been given to repair dilapidated highways by June 8 to lessen the sufferings of homebound people on the occasion of Eid. If required, works will be continued at night side by side with daytime, he added.

The minister also warned of taking stern actions against any irregularities and corruptions relating to toll plaza.

Besides, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations will remain open 24-hour before and after 4 days of Eid-ul Fitr, he said.

Quader also asked authority concerned to stop plying of all type of vehicles, even of VIPs, in wrong side.

Earlier, the minister visited the Gazaria portion of Dhaka-Chittagong Highway.

Lawmakers Nasim Osman, Liakat Ali Khoka, Subid Ali Bhuiyan and Nazrul Islam Babu, among others, were present on the occasion.
