JS body for preparing 'Road Transport (draft) Act-2017' soon

DHAKA, May 25, 2018 (BSS) - The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges yesterday recommended for taking measures to prepare the proposed 'Road Transport (draft) Act-2017' soon to ensure safe roads and prevent accidents.

The committee also suggested the ministry for monitoring the ongoing projects of the Roads and Highways Department under Rajshahi zone visiting the spots, said an official release here.

The recommendations were made at the 30th meeting of the committee held at the Jatiya Sangshad (JS) Bhaban with its Chairman Md Akabbar Hossain in the chair, the release added.

Committee members Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, AKMA Awal (Saydur Rahman), Rejwan Ahammad Taufiq, Nazmul Haque Prodhan, Md Monirul Islam and Nazim Uddin Ahmed attended the meeting.

In the meeting, discussions were held and reports were presented on Road Research Laboratory and the latest conditions and progress of the ongoing development projects of the Roads and Highways Department under Rajshahi Zone.

The committee urged the ministry for submitting a report on evicting those using gas, water and electricity making settlements illegally on the land earmarked for Road Research Laboratory in the next meeting after visiting the spot.

Senior Secretary of the Bridges Division, Secretary of the Road Transport and Highways Division and concerned officials of the Jatiya Sangsad were present in the meeting, among others.
