Awami League chalks out month-long programnme for August

DHAKA, Aug 1, 2016 (BSS) - Awami League, the ruling party that also led country's independence in 1971, has chalked out an elaborate programme to observe the 41st death anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Mourning Day during August.

The programmes would be observed during the entire month of August in a coordinated manner by the front organizations, party allies, and pro-liberation forces in the country, said a press release here today.

Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the programme this afternoon from Dhanamondi 32, the very residence of Bangabandhu, through unveiling the cover of a book 'Krishoker Kantha' and a blood donation programme there.

A discussion meeting, organized by Bangladesh Krishak League, will also be held at 32, Dhanmondi premises. Besides, Jubo League has organized a photo exhibition titled "Bangalir Hridoyer Frame-a Jatir Pita' and it would be opened for public from first August in the city.

Awami Jubo League will hold a separate discussion meeting on August 4 to mark the birth anniversary of Sheikh Kamal, eldest son of Bangabandhu and a great organizer, in the city. On August 5th, Awami League and its front organizations would hold 'doa' and 'milad mahfil' and offer accolade to Sheikh Kamal at Abahani Club, a football club Kamal established soon after independence.

Similar programmes would also be held at Banani Graveyard, where Sheikh Kamal and most of their family members are laid for eternal rest after their brutal killings by a pre-dawn military putsch on August 15, 1975. Awami Swechchha Shebak League will also organize identical programmes at Bangabandhu Bhaban.

Bangladesh Chhatra League will hold a female students' rally on August 7 to mark the birth anniversary of Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib, while Jubo League will hold a discussion meeting on her life on the same day.

On August 8, Dhaka City North and South Awami League as well as other front organizations of the party would hold 'milad mahfil', 'doa' and 'Quran Khwani' at Banani Graveyard at 8am to mark the birth anniversary of Fazilatunnesa, spouse of Father of the Nation and the mother of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Awami Swechchasebak League will hold discussion meeting on Begum Mujib at 11 am at Bangabandhu Bhaban, while Dhaka City North and South Awami League and other front organizations would hold a discussion at Bangabandhu Avenue after 'asr' prayers.

Awami Jubo League will hold a separate discussion meeting on Begum Mujib and Awami Jubo Mohila League will distribute clothes and food among street children.

On August 10, Jubo League will hold a discussion meeting at 10 am on National Mourning Day, while Mohila Awami League will hold separate discussion at Jatiya Mohila Sangstha on Begum Mujib's birth anniversary.

Awami Swechchasebak League will hold a discussion at Bagabandhu Bhaban premises to mark the National Mourning Day on 11 August, while Krishak League will offer prayers at the Mazar of Bangabandhu at Tungipara on 12 August (Friday).

Swadhinata Chikitshak Parishad (Swachip) will hold discussion meeting at BMA Bhaban (opposite Press Club) at 3pm on 13 August in capital city Dhaka. Awami Swechchasebak League will organize a photo exhibition on 13-15 August at Bangabandhu Bhaban.

On August 15, the National Mourning Day, a detailed programme has been chalked out to observe the day with due fervor. The programmes include paying tributes, offering wreaths, holding discussion meetings and distribution of food among the poor. The days programme will begin with offering wreaths at Bangabandhu's portrait at Dhanmondi and his Mazar at Tungipara as well as offering prayers at Banani Graveyard, where most of Bangabandhu's family is
buried.

Awami Swechchasebak League will distribute food among destitute, while Awami Mohila League will organize 'doa' and 'milad mahfil' at Bangabandhu Bhaban premises after asr prayers. Jubo League will place wreaths and pay tribute to Bangabandhu at Bangabandhu Bhaban, his mazar at Tungipara and at Banani graveyard. Awami Jubo Mohila League will coordinate the distribution of food in all wards and Thanas of Dhaka city.

Awami Ainjibi Parishad will offer prayers and pay tributes to Bangabandhu at his mazar in Tungipara at 6am on August 15, while Krishak League will hold a discussion, mass feeding programme and milad at 19 Bangabandhu Avenue on the same day. Dhaka City (North) Krishak League will also hold separate mass feeding and milad mahfil programme near Milk Vita in Mirpur.

The detail National Mourning Day programmes include: keeping national and party flags half-mast and hoisting black flags at dawn at all offices of the party including Central Office and Bangabandhu Bhaban, paying tribute to Bangabandhu's portrait at Dhanmondi at 6.45 am, holding mourning rally at different parts of the city and pay homage to Bangabandhu's portrait at Bangabandhu Bhaban, paying tributes and offering prayers at Banani Graveyard at 7.30am and offering scheduled programmes at Bangabandhu's Mazar at 10am.

Awami League Working Committee members and senior leaders of the party are scheduled to attend the programmes at Tungipara. Leaders from all other front organizations and fellow political parties will attend there. After zohr prayers, prayers will be offered in mosques across the country, while special prayers would be offered for Bangabandhu and his family members at Church, Temples, Pagoda and other places of worships. Lunch will be served among the
insolvent people while milad and doa mahfil will be offered after asr
prayers.

On August 16, Awami League will hold discussion at Bangabandhu
International Conference Center (BICC), where Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to speak. On August 17, Awami Swechchasebak League will organize human-chain to press the demand for the trial of perpetrators of the serial bomb explosions in the country in 2005. Chhatra League will bring out black-flag processions in educational institutes to mark the black day.

On August 18, Bangabandhu Prokoushali Parishad will hold a discussion at Engineer's Institution Bangladesh and Jatiya Sramik League, Dhaka City North, will also hold a separate discussion in the afternoon. Jubo Mohila League will hold discussion at Krishibid Institution, while Jatiya Sramik League, Dhaka City South, will hold another meeting on the same day.

Institution auditorium on August 20, a day which will also see several programmes from other organizations. Chhatra League will hold a separate discussion, while Awami Jubo League will hold a discussion on the August 21 Grenade Attack.

On August 21, Awami League, Dhaka City North and South Awami League as well as the party front organizations will hold discussion, milad mahfil and pay homage to the temporary alter built for martyrs in front of party Central Office at Bangabandhu Avenue at 4pm. At 5.21 pm, tributes would be paid to the martyrs and the injured of 2004 grenade attack and Awami Swechchasebak League will meet Quddus Patwary, one of the grenade attack survivors, and his family.

On August 22, Mohila Awami League will hold a discussion at Bangabandhu Bhaban premises at 32 Dhanmondi at 4pm., while Jatiya Sramik League, Dhaka City North, will also hold another discussion in capital Dhaka on the same day. Dhaka City South Krishak League will hold a discussion and milad mahfil to mark the National Mourning Day.

On August 23, Jubo Mohila League will hold human-chain in front of the National Press Club, while Awami Ainjibi Parishad will hold a discussion at Supreme Court Bar Association Auditorium at 3pm.

In memory of Ivy Rahman, Awami League Dhaka City North and South units as well as the front organizations would pay tribute to Ms Rahman, brutally killed in the grenade attack, by offering prayers and placing wreaths at her grave in Banani on August 24. Tanti League will hold discussion on August 25 as well.

Krishak League will hold a discussion at 3pm at Jatiya Press Club, while Mohila Sramik League will hold another discussion in front of party central office on August 29. Dhaka City North and South Awami League will also hold discussion on August 30.

On August 31, last day of the month's programme, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will address a rally, which will be organised by Chhatra League, at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city.

Awami League General Secretary and Minister for Public Administration Syed Ashraful Islam urged all party leaders, workers and supporters as well as political allies to put their best efforts to organize and hold the programmes with utmost sincerity. He also urged all committees of Awami League and its front organizations- be it central or local- to observe the programme in line with the programmes chalked out by the central.
