Efforts on to bring back Bangabandhu killers: Mozammel

DHAKA, Aug 2, 2016 (BSS)- Minister for Liberation War Affairs AKM Mozammel Haque said in London yesterday that efforts are on to bring back home the convicted killers of Bangabandhu and his family members to execute the punishment handed down to them.

The minister sought cooperation of all in this regard.

"Though Bangabandhu as a personality was assassinated on the fateful night of August 15 in 1975, his ideologies could not be murdered and Bangabandhu's ideologies could never be erased," he said.

The minister said, "Bangalees were united during the turbulent days of 1971 and they are also united now. There won't be any place for militancy on the soil of Bangabandhu's Bangla (country)."

Mozammel Haque was speaking as the chief guest at a discussion organised by United Kingdom unit of Awami Juba League (AJL) in London marking the National Mourning Day, according to an official handout here today.

He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working relentlessly to translate into reality Bangabandhu's dream for building a 'Sonar Bangla' (golden country) through implementation of his policies and ideologies.

But, the minister said the killers of Bangabandhu and the anti-liberation forces are still active hatching conspiracies to kill family members of Bangabandhu. "Whatever might be their conspiracies, they won't be able to jeopardise the forward march of Bangladesh," Mozammel added.

The minister said, "The August 15 is a slanderous black day for the nation. On this day, the assassins killed Bangabandhu and most of his family members and on November 3 the same year they murdered four national leaders inside Dhaka Central Jail. Trial in all the murders will be held. No criminal will be able to escape the trial."

President of UK unit AJL Fakhrul Islam Modhu chaired the discussion, also addressed, among others, by acting president of UK unit Awami League Jalal Uddin, advisory council member Shamsuddin Khan and acting general secretary Nayeem Uddin Reaz.
