Bangabandhu to be remembered forever in history for establishing Islamic values

DHAKA, Aug 13, 2016 (BSS) - Noted Islamic scholars and researchers said that the contribution of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman will be remembered forever in the history as he had established Islamic values in the country in light of the Madina charter by upholding the communal harmony.

The Father of the Nation will be remembered for preaching and disseminating Islamic values including establishment of Islamic Foundation, Bangladesh Madrasha Education Board, land allocation for Kakrail Mosque and Biswa Ijtema, achievement of OIC membership, performing Holy Hajj at a lesser cost, enactment of Islamic Sharia law for prohibiting alcohol and gambling and broadcasting the message of Quran on radio and television, they told BSS in separate interviews.

"Bangabandhu had established 'Islamic Foundation (IF) with a view to produce 'idle men' by providing human and moral lessons based on the Quran and Hadith", said Director General of the Islamic Foundation Shamim Mohammad Afzal.

The Father of the Nation had established the Islamic values in the country in light of the Madina charter through accommodating the ideals and philosophy of great prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PUBH), the IF's DG added.

Bangabandhu was very much careful for proper placing of all the religions including Islam,said Chairman of Bangladesh United Islami Party(BUIP) Mawlana M Ismail Hossain, adding that "he [Bangabandhu] was very much cautious to uphold the Islamic ideals including iman, akida, tawhid and resalat."

Bangabandhu, in his personal, family and public, life was abided by the law prescribed by the quran and sunnah, he commented.

Simultaneously, Prime Minister Shiekh Hasina, daughter of Bangabandhu, too has taken an initiative to uphold the real Islamic values like her father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for establishing a country with communal harmony,said BUIP chairman.

Noted Islamic scholar and researcher Mawlana Mufti Tajul Islam Faruqui told BSS that "Bangabandhu had established Islamic Foundation by an ordinance on March 28 in 1975 in the war-ravaged Bangladesh".

"The forefather of Bangabandhu Shiekh Mujibur Rahman was Dervish Sheikh Awal who came to the sub-continent from Bagdad as a companion of Hazrat Bayejid Bostami (RA), said a book titled 'Islam and Bangabandhu' published by Islamic Foundation.

Bangabandhu was the seventh generation of Sheikh Awal, one of the prominent preacher of Islam in the sub-continent, said the book which was compiled by Principal M Shajahan Alam Saju and Dr Muhammad Ashraful Alam.

Bangabandhu who first donated 160 acre land at Tongi for Biswa Ijtema, now it becomes a second Islamic congregation in the world after hajj.
