JS body for controlling sand extraction to save aquatic lives

DHAKA, May 15, 2018 (BSS) - The parliamentary standing committee on Ministry of Forest and Environment affairs today asked officials concerned to control sand extraction from Halda River to save aquatic lives including Dolphin.

"In a meeting the committee urged the ministry to take steps for controlling sand extraction from the River Halda to save the lives of aquatic animals including Dolphin and stop all kinds of activities responsible for pollution," a parliamentary secretariat statement said.

The meeting also suggested taking proper steps for tree plantation across the country including Chhtragram Hill Tracts during the upcoming monsoon.

With committee's chairman M Hasan Mahmud in the chair, the meeting was attended by Committee members Minister of the ministry Anisul Islam Mahmud, Deputy Minister Abdullah Al Islam Jacob, Nabi Newaz, M Yahya Chowdhury, Tipu Sultan, M Yeasin Ali and other officials concerned.
